The Nocturnists is a live story telling series started by one the Department of Medicine’s recent graduates, Emily Silverman, where healthcare professionals tell their stories. They've had several events over the last year and a half; they take place at bars/theaters off-campus, and are very well-attended, fun, and cathartic. It's a nice opportunity to share and listen to our own stories, whether they're dark, joyful, serious, funny, or (more often) a combination thereof. On September 13th, The Nocturnsts is holding an event co-hosted by the DOM’s Residency Diversity Committee, where the the theme will be “Diversity and Identity” and we’d love to hear your voices! The Nocturnists is a really powerful event and I encourage all of you to consider submitting a story. Info on tickets will come in the next few months, but for now we invite you to submit your story ideas via the link below and save the date for this special event!
Call for Submissions: The culture of medicine creates a professional identity for each of us as practitioners in the field. For providers from minority backgrounds, that culture may be distinct from the social identities formed long before professional training. We are looking for stories from health care professionals from minority backgrounds (broadly defined) about the intersection of your personal and professional identities in medicine. We welcome submissions from a broad range of minority experiences including (but not limited to!) race and ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, religion, ability, socioeconomic status, and immigrant identities. We invite submissions from a wide range of health care professions, and discussions of intersecting identities are always welcomed.
Please submit your story here -- don't worry, if your story is chosen, we will help you craft it so that it's stage ready! Also, please circulate this e-mail to your friends/peers in other specialities and at other local hospitals. We can't wait to hear your stories!
Tickets for the event will go on sale later this summer.
