Data Ethics Workshop

Data Ethics Workshop Online

This workshop will teach participants how to approach their research in ways that centralize the autonomy of their subjects and their subjects' communities. Participants will be pushed to consider the limitations of current ethical standards (like IRB and informed consent), and pushed to think about how their work depends on the lives, histories, bodies, and cultures of subjects. Built on anticolonial framework, and indebted to Indigenous scholars' critiques of contemporary academic research practices, this workshop will provide an introduction to concepts like refusal and extractive research.
