AI in Your Toolkit: A Discussion on Bias in AI Online

Session Overview

In this session, part of the Library's AI in Your Toolkit series, we will present prominent examples of AI bias, explain why bias occurs, and summarize efforts by AI engineers to curb bias. We will also outline some strategies that AI users can take to minimize biased output. Finally, we will open the floor to participants to offer reactions to several guided questions. We expect to have a lively discussion, but encourage you to attend the session even if you do not intend to participate in the question-and-answer section.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain why AI may provide biased responses.
  • Describe some of the strategies that AI engineers are using to try to curb bias.
  • Apply strategies for minimizing biased output.
