Literature Searching in the Age of AI: Where to Begin Online
Session Overview
This hands-on workshop focuses on how to best start basic literature searching using a combination of databases, search engines, and AI tools. Discussion will cover questions to consider that guide whether an AI tool, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Consensus, and Perplexity, can be helpful in the literature searching process. Participants will practice searching a combination of databases, search engines, and AI tools to critique the results. There will be time for questions and discussion throughout the workshop.
Learning Objectives
- Determine where AI tools may fit into the literature searching workflow
- Compare and contrast answers provided by databases vs. AI tools
- Create prompts to optimize AI tool answers to compliment database searching

About the series

About the instructor
Josephine Tan, MLIS, is an Education and Research Librarian. She teaches curriculum-integrated literature searching and citation management skills and specializes in medical education research.
