Managing your research data for security and reproducibility

Are you in the midst of designing a research study that will require you to collect a lot data? Are you thinking about working with a vendor to store or process your research data – securely? Have you completed a research study and are trying to get your work published in a journal that has data sharing requirements? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this workshop is for you. This workshop will cover the strategies, tools, and techniques you need to securely manage your research data throughout a project. Learn how to avoid a costly data breach, comply with funder and journal requirements for data sharing, and organize your projects for reproducibility.

By the end of this session learners will be able to:

  • Write a data management plan for your research project that addresses:
    • Data collection and classification (including PHI)
    • Data organization and documentation
    • Secure data storage
    • Data sharing, de- identification, and preservation
  • Identify and respond in a timely manner to a potential privacy incident involving a data breach
  • Identify and utilize relevant UCSF resources and contacts to meet data collection, privacy, security, and sharing requirements for your research
