Introduction to SAS Macros In-Person

Workshop Overview

This workshop is intended for individuals who are comfortable with basic SAS programming and are interested in learning to use the SAS macro language to simplify programs and/or create analyses and reports that can be easily repeated.

Learning Objectives

This workshop will introduce basic concepts and tools for creating Macro variables and Macro programs in SAS. By the end of the workshop participants should have the following knowledge and skills:
  • Understanding of how the SAS Macro facility interacts with the base SAS processor
  • Understanding of the difference between local and global SAS macro variables
  • Understanding of basic strategies for de-bugging code with Macros in SAS
  • Ability to create and call macro variables within a regular SAS program
  • Ability to create a short macro program that incorporates both DATA and PROC statements

Prerequisites

You must have basic SAS programming experience with a good grasp on DATA step processing concepts in order to benefit from this course.

You must also have a laptop that you can bring to the class with SAS installed, or with remote access to SAS. You can follow along with a free version of SAS that is installed on your laptop, available here.

Note: The workshop does not include time for resolving IT or installation issues, so please make sure you have a working version of SAS available in advance.
