Tracking Covid Cases using Python, JSON, and MongoDB In-Person

This workshop will provide an introduction to reading, building, and querying JSON data using Python and MongoDB.

In this three hour workshop, we will first use the Atlas Compass GUI to query, filter, and download data on Covid case rates internationally from Johns Hopkins University. Next, we will use Python, PyMongo, and Jupyter to create write more complex queries on the JHU Mongo database. Lastly we will review how to build a cloud based MongoDB to index and search a large Covid research dataset released by the Allen Institute for AI.

Prerequisites: None (Intro Python recommended). The sections where we use Compass to connect to a database and run queries will not require any programming background, so feel free to enroll without python experience. You will need intro level python and jupyter programming ability to complete the PyMongo sections of the workshop.
